A teen girl from Illinois decided to trespass into Joliet Correctional Center, an abandoned prison of course, on Collins Street with her friend.
But the teen accidentally got trapped inside a cell and ended up serving a short sentence of about 45 minutes in the process.
Her friend called firefighters who had to break a wall with a sledgehammer in order to set the girl free. According to Joliet Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Stromberg, the girls managed to enter the building through a hole in its fence. In order to avoid the police, the girls called fire department instead of 911.
“We ended up knocking a hole in a cinder block and she crawled through,” said Stromberg.
Though the girl did not require any medical assistance, she was visibly frightened by the whole situation.
Unfortunately, the abandoned prison has been closed to the public since 2002, which led the state police to charge the girls with trespassing.
