LaPorte County police arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s pet donkey during a drunken domestic dispute.
The suspect named Olvydas Abromavieius of Union Pier, Michigan, was taken into custody after deliberately shooting donkey in the head near the left eye.
LaPorte County police were dispatched to a residence in Wilhelm Road in Indiana shortly after 9 p.m. following a domestic abuse call. Abromavieius and his girlfriend didn’t stop their argument even after the deputies’ arrival. Deputies found that both of them were highly intoxicated and the female told that she had been physically abused by the suspect.
On further investigation, deputies found an injured donkey which was bleeding profusely from the head. The five-year-old donkey named Jack, had been shot in the head near the left eye. Police called for medical assistance unfortunately the donkey died of its injuries.
Abromavieius was booked on domestic battery and animal cruelty. He was initially taken to LaPorte Hospital due to his high level of intoxication with a blood alcohol level of .3%. He is scheduled to appear in LaPorte Superior Court today.
